On Civil Unions And Gay Marriage
On Civil Unions And Gay Marriage
The following letter to Connecticutâs state legislators has been received for publication.
Dear State Legislators:
The Civil Unions/Gay Marriage legislation imposed by our legislature thwarts democracy.
A Harris poll showed 78 percent of Connecticut residents want a statewide referendum on this controversial issue. And calls at the state capitol the last two weeks are 20 to 1 against, but the legislature is playing God and forcing this upon us all.
This is not a Democrat or Republican issue. This is an American âmoral valueâ concern of the majority. Neither the majority of Hispanics, Blacks, Catholics, Protestants, Jews, Baptists, Methodists, Lutherans nor Muslims support civil unions and gay marriage.
I do not remember anyone of you running for office with a sign in your yard stating âif elected I will bring you gay marriage.â
If civil unions are approved as written there is negligible difference from traditional marriage under current statutes. But the difference is obvious and undeniable!
Marriage dates back 6,000 years, is about procreation, and the obligation of raising the children. Marriage is not just about love and unnatural sex acts that cannot create children. Homosexuals as everyone knows, by their very nature, two men or two women, cannot create children. Thus this is a defective culture that is not naturally sustainable. Additionally, homosexuality is not a uniform attribute across individuals and it is not stable over time. Over time some homosexuals actually change and become heterosexuals, and this is well documented. Therefore this does not deserve civil rights status.
As with all legislation, there is an associated cost. But legislators are not talking about that either. What are the projected health cost increases to the state over five years? And how about medical premium increases to employers and employees?
If legislators refuse us a statewide referendum, we should vote them out of office.
Sincerely,
Daniel and Christel Kormanik
