Town Players 70th Season
Town Players of Newtown will open its 70th anniversary season at The Little Theatre on Orchard Hill Road with Michael Parkerâs The Amorous Ambassador. Evelyne Thomas will direct the production.
The play follows the hilarious progression of events during a weekend at the home of the US Ambassador in Great Britain.
Local actors make up the cast for the season opener, including Doug Miller of Newtown as Harry (the ambassador), and Nancy Gordon and Cadi Poile of Ridgefield as Lois (the ambassadorâs wife) and Debbie (their daughter), respectively.
Suzanne Kinnear of Bethel is playing the next-door neighbor; Rob Pawlikowski of Roxbury is the butler; and Newtown residents Eric OâConnor is the Henryâs secretary, Gene Zingaro is a US Marine Corps officer, and Eric Bagger is playing the boyfriend of Debbie.
The producer is Mary Poile, with stage management by Sarah McSweeney, set design and construction by Dan Paynter, and lighting and sound design by Rob Pawlikowski.
Opening night will be Friday, April 29, at 8 pm, and the production will continue on weekends until May 21. Performances are scheduled for Friday and Saturday evenings at 8, with a matinee planned for Sunday, May 15, at 2 pm.
Tickets for evening performances are $15; the matineeâs tickets are $12.
Benefit performances are scheduled for Fridays, April 29 and May 6, at 8 pm. Tickets for the April 29 performance, sponsored by The Circle of Hope of Newtown Congregational Church, are $20 each. A social gathering will begin at 7:30, with wine, cheese and soft drinks offered to attendees. There will also be an auction during intermission. Proceeds will benefit the churchâs kitchen fund.
