Love And Knishes Lunch Programs

SOUTHBURY — All area seniors are invited to enjoy lunch and entertainment on Tuesdays during May at the Love and Knishes Lunch Program of the Federation–Jewish Communities of Western Connecticut. The programs take place in the social hall at the Walzer Family Jewish Community Campus, 444 Main Street North.

The food is freshly prepared each week by Chef Nancy Stokes and features healthful menus with everything from salad to dessert. Lunch is served at noon and programs start at 1 pm.

The following programs are featured for May:

May 3, Willie Nininger, folk humorist, singer and top flatpick guitarist.

May 10, “Shake It Up” features registered dietician and nutritionist Judy Prager giving the latest lowdown on salt and sodium.

May 17, actor Richard Clark appears in a one-man play as Clarence Darrow. The play features intense courtroom drama and comic relief as he highlights the life and times of the extraordinary attorney.

May 24, pianist King Bosworth and mezzo-soprano Meg Capen perform Schumann’s beautiful song cycle, “Woman’s Love and Life,” as well as other art and popular songs.

Storyteller Joyce Marie Rayno brings to life the tales and legends of local towns and villages as she recounts “Connecticut Folk Tales” on May 31.

Lunch reservations should be made by Thursday for the following week. All programs are open to the public, and there is a suggested donation of $5.50 for seniors. To RSVP, call Debby Horowitz, Brownstein Jewish Family Service program director, at 267-3177, extension 105.
