Honoring Volunteers

To the Editor:

April 17 through April 23 is National Volunteer Week. Since 1974, every US President has signed a proclamation promoting and supporting this week. The theme for 2005 is “Inspire By Example.”

At Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, Inc, we are delighted to take this opportunity to honor and thank our many volunteers who inspire us by their example of compassion, caring, and commitment. Our family support volunteers visit with our patients and their families bringing companionship and respite, an easy smile and a gentle touch, and a sense of dignity and honor to the work that they do. Our bereavement volunteers support the members of our community, both children and adults, who are rebuilding their lives after loss. They open their hearts and minds, knowing that while the work of grief has no timetable, it must be done. Our administrative volunteers bring a quiet presence, a sense of understanding, and competency to their work.

Volunteers in the community inspire us with their vitality and dedication. While raising funds to support us, our chapter fundraising volunteers are also raising awareness of the work that we do. Volunteers from civic, corporate, and community organizations share their time, their talent, and their financial support. The members of our Professional Advisory Committee and Board of Directors inspire us with their guidance and dedication to our mission.

Regional Hospice is blessed to have so many members of our community devoting their time and their hearts to our work. The dedication of so many volunteers reaffirms our commitment to the work in which we so firmly believe.
