Doctors Get Their Seats In A Row

Is there ever any doubt that doctors come forward to cover any emergency? How many times have doctors acted as Good Samaritans and stopped on a highway to assist accident victims? The numbers are legion.

Once again they are stepping forward as they have contributed in numbers of the Newtown Lions’ Tercentennial Project of replacing all the 411 lower level seats of the town hall theater and refurbishing the upstairs one. To honor their work and donations, a doctors’ row will be created. It is within two seats of being completed.

Responding to a request from the Tercentennial Committee to come up with a meaningful project to celebrate Newtown’s 300th year, the Newtown Lions Club decided on the Edmond Town Hall seats project. A thermometer in front of Edmond Town Hall, created by Newtown Lion Tom Evagash, shows the progress toward achieving the overall goal.

“As of right now,” said Gordon Williams, Lions Club chairman of the project, “we have sold 95 seats at $300 each and have collected 28 percent of the money needed. Each of those seats will have an inscription on the back chosen by the donor.

“We have collected more money than we have sold seats because we have received a number of donations from people who chose not to buy a seat but did want to contribute,” he said. “Those who wish to buy seven or more seats will be honored by a special plaque in Edmond Town Hall.”

For further information call Mr Williams at 426-6443. Anyone wishing to donate may send a check payable to Edmond Town Hall Board of Managers with a notation that it is for the seats committee to Newtown Lions Club, PO Box 218, Newtown CT 06470, Attention Gordon Williams. All donations are tax deductible.
