Action For Cardiovascular Health
DANBURY â Danbury Hospital launched the Womenâs HeartAdvantage program this year to educate women about cardiovascular disease and ways to lead healthier lifestyles. Now women can attend a free educational program titled âGetting to the Heart of the Matter: Cardiovascular Disease in Womenâ Tuesday, May 9, from 7 to 9 pm.
The program is designed to help women and their loved ones understand the risk factors and make effective changes that can improve cardiovascular health. The program takes place in the Praxair Conference Room at Danbury Hospital.
Susan Mani, MD, director of Womenâs HeartAdvantage program, will present an overview of cardiovascular disease in women, while identifying opportunities for risk reduction and prevention. Dr Mani will discuss the following topics:
Women and Heart Disease, an overview heart disease, how heart disease is different in women than men, risk factors and how women can prevent heart disease.
Know Your Numbers, the importance of knowing acceptable ranges for cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar as they relate to risk of heart disease.
Diet and Nutrition, the basics of developing a healthy eating plan, and selecting and preparing food.
 Introduction to Cardiovascular Fitness, an introduction into easy fitness. Emphasis will be placed on best ways to incorporate exercise into busy lifestyles.
 Understanding Stress and Your Heart, the effects of stress on cardiac health.
 Smoking Cessation, the effects of smoking on the heart.
