Woman Burned In Car Fire On Washbrook Road
About 10 pm on Thursday, April 13, Botsford firefighters responded to a report of a car fire near 20 Washbrook Road.
On arriving at the scene of a fully involved car fire, firefighters learned that the woman who had been driving the Volkswagen Jetta when it started to malfunction, stopped, got out of the vehicle and opened the hood to check what was wrong, according to Botsford Fire Chief Wayne Ciaccia.
But when the hood was opened, a fire that was burning in the engine compartment leapt upward, burning the womanâs arms, hands, face, and chest, he said. The womanâs identity was not available. She was described as a local woman in her mid-20âs.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported the woman to the burn care unit at Bridgeport Hospital, Chief Ciaccia said. The womanâs medical condition on the morning of April 20 was unclear, but she reportedly was still hospitalized. Fire Marshal Bill Halstead is investigating the case.
