WCSU Opera Will Present ‘The Merry Widow’

DANBURY — Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) Opera will present Franz Lehar’s The Merry Widow, a light opera that features melodies with English lyrics, constant comedy, and energetic music and dance.

Performances will be held at 8 pm on Friday and Saturday, April 21 and 22, and 3 pm on Sunday, April 23, in Ives Concert Hall.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and children 12 and under, and $5 for WestConn students with valid ID.

Set in the fictitious nation of Marsovia, the story takes a light-hearted look at the romantic and political challenges of Sonia Glawari, a young widow who has just inherited most of the country. She and her old flame, Count Danilo, are mutually attracted and follow a broken path to each other.

For information, call 837-8350. For ticket reservations, call 837-8499. Tickets also may be purchased at the door before each performance or online at WCSU.edu/tickets.

Ives Concert Hall is in White Hall, 181 White Street, on the university’s midtown campus.
