WAA To Feature Three Artists
WAA To Feature Three Artists
WASHINGTON DEPOT â For its May offering, Washington Art Association (WAA) will present a show featuring the works of three artists. Titled âCebulash * Goodrich * Bakoian,â the exhibition will open on Saturday, April 29, with a reception from 3 to 5 pm. The exhibition will then remain on view until May 21.
In Glen Cebulashâs own words, his âtraining and education as a painter was, for lack of better terms, perception based, naturalistic and figurative and for many years after graduate school my work was concerned primarily with the subjects of landscape and still life. In or around 2000, I began in earnest to paint from memory and imagination and this has remained my studio practice ever since.
âDespite the abstract and improvisational nature of the painting I remain interested in, and committed to, the figure as a central element; structurally, psychologically and metaphysically,â he continued.
John Goodrichâs oil paintings and watercolors reflect a modernistâs concern for rhythms of color and form. His landscapes, still life and figure paintings have been exhibited in numerous group shows around the country and in regular solo exhibitions at Bowery Gallery in New York City. He teaches and writes about art in the New York City area.
Lauren Bakoian studied printmaking at Maine College of Art (BFA 92) and Washington University (MFA 94). She considers how her images are formed through the process of printmaking, as well as outside influences (Armenian miniature paintings, needlepoint, historical prints).
Images evolve through a process of carving, printing and making adjustments through more carving or filling in. Decisions are made aesthetically, but also according to personal and literary sentiment.
Ms Bakoian has worked as a fine art lithographer and has held various teaching positions as a visiting artist in New York Cityâs public schools. She currently work as the director of Lori Book stein Fine Art in New York City.
WAA Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm; Sunday, noon to 5 pm. For additional information call 860-868-2878 or visit WashingtonArt.org.
