Occupation: I’m a textbook author and writer. I work with academic professors to do business textbooks like Intro to Marketing or Intro to Advertising. I have written two books of my own on how to write a marketing plan. One is the US version and one is for the European market. The best thing is I get to learn so much in-depth about these topics.

Family: I’ve been married to my husband, Wally Wood, for over 20 years. We have an extended, blended family. He has three grown children, Gregory, Victoria, and Jefferson. Victoria and her husband, Jim, have two daughters, Amelia, 8, and Ella, who is 4. Jefferson is married to Beatrice and they have two sons, Gabriel, 4, and Tobias who just had his first birthday. In addition, I have a wonderful twin sister, Isabel, and three truly beautiful nieces, Andrea, Katie, and Heather, who is married to Robbie and has a 4-year-old son, Michael.

Pets: No domestic animals, but I feed the wild birds. Because of [Bee reporter] Dottie Evans’s articles about the Great Back Yard Bird Count, I got into watching the birds. It made me look more closely.

What do you like to do in your free time? I quilt, so I’m involved with the Sew Together Gals, a quilting group in town. I read a lot. I’m involved with a mystery/discussion group at the library and I love to watch figure skating competitions. I go to them as well as watch them on TV.

How long have you been in Newtown? We have been here 13 years. Before that, I was in Westchester. I’m a Bronx native.

What book are you reading presently? The Snow Storm by Rebecca Powel. I like it because it’s not just a mystery. There are political undercurrents, family and class intrigue, and historical events woven into the mystery. It’s complex on many levels. When I’m not reading mysteries, I’m reading science fiction.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go? Well, I would go into the future. I want to know how things turned out and did we live happily ever after. Or at least, who wins the next Olympic gold medal in figure skating. I’d like to know what goes on 10, 20, or even 100 years from now. Now all I need is a travel agent who can set it up.

What is the best thing about Newtown? I’m thinking two things. The reason we came here is because it is an active volunteer town. You have the fire companies, Friends of Music, Friends of the Library, EMS, any number of other volunteer organizations; without them it would not be Nicer in Newtown. The other thing is Main Street in any season. From Ram Pasture and The Pleasance to the head of Main Street, the buildings donated by our benefactress, the flagpole, all of it. We have two kinds of treasures here: the people and the places and that’s what makes Newtown special.

What is the most important lesson you have ever learned? That people come first. When I look at my mantel, it is filled with photos of the people I love. I’m really lucky to be a grandmother and I think that has helped me to understand how important people are.

Do you have a personal philosophy? Yes, I do. You should never miss an opportunity to say “I love you” to anyone you care about. I don’t think you can say “I love you” too many times or hear it too many times.

Where do you see yourself in 20 years? In my dream life, I get to go to the World Figure Skating Championships, whatever city it is in, taking my favorite friends and family, of course. I would get to see all of these beautiful, graceful, accomplished athletes from all over the world..
