Earth Day Festival Will Have Focus On Global Warming

WOODBURY — Global Warming is a phenomenon most experts agree on… they just haven’t agreed to its cause and effects.

At the 12th Annual Earth Day celebration at New Morning Store, visitors will find practical information about how anyone can make a difference.

This year’s celebration will be on Saturday, April 22, from 11 am to 4 pm. Bring the family for a fun day of great food and live music, and taste the latest in natural and organic foods. Admission is free.

The festival will feature live music of the Americas by Sirius Coyote, Doug Mahard, Victoria Christgau, Fre Atlast, and Shula Ruth Weinstien; vendors sampling the latest and best in natural and organic food and eco-friendly products; many nonprofit, environmentally aware organizations, including the Connecticut Chapter of the Northeast Organic Farming Association, Clean Water Action, Housatonic Valley Association, Sierra Club, and the Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition; naturopaths, massage therapists, and natural health care professionals; and raffles, prizes and activities.

Also this year, The Car Bob Show — featuring hosts Bob Costanzo and Doug Echols, along with their panel of experts speaking on alternative and eco-friendly approaches to getting around — will be broadcast live from the festival on radio stations WPKN (89.5) and WPKM (88.7). Their topics will include identifying alternatives to current engine designs and energy sources for automobiles, machinery and home heating, and short- and long-term solutions to reduce and eliminate carbon dioxide pollution and other polluting waste in the environment.

Several alternative fuel automobiles will be on view at the festival, including biodiesels and electric automobiles. Among the electric vehicles will be a luxury (and recycled) 1977 Aston Martin GT coupe.

Bill Duesing, an organic farmer and author, will represent The Connecticut Northeast Organic Farming Association during the Earth Day Celebration. Mr Duesing will share knowledge about how an organic vegetable garden can be one of the most important additions anyone can make in their life.

The event will be held rain or shine.

The drawing for four prizes will also be held, including $500 of free groceries from New Morning. Between now and the festival, every $20 purchase will count toward tickets for Earth Day raffles.

New Morning Store is in Middle Quarter Mall, 738 Main Street South (Route 6). Visit NewMorn.com for directions and prize details or call Gene Banks at 203-263-0673, extension 317.
