Charles R. âPopâ Merrifield, Sr, 83, of Norwalk, died April 11 at Norwalk Hospital. He was the husband of 54 years of the late Margaret L. âPeggyâ Larson Merrifield.
Survivors include his four children and their spouses, Charles R. Merrifield, Jr and his wife, Diane, of Newtown, John R. Merrifield and his wife, Janet, of Sandy Hook, James A. Merrifield and his wife, Terry, of Fairfield, Lisa A. Mastropietro and her husband, Mark, of Norwalk; Charlesâ twin brother, Thomas Merrifield, Jr, of Plymouth, Penn.; 11 grandchildren, Justin, Kyle, Stacey, and Kristy Mastropietro, Tom Cullen, Lindsay, James II, Kimberly, Jill Ann, and Charles III Merrifield; and many nieces and nephews. Mr Merrifield was predeceased by two brothers, Arthur and Albert Merrifield; and three sisters, Ester Miller, Irene Robertino, and Margaret Jones.
Mr Merrifield was born in Plymouth, Penn., May 4, 1922, son of Thomas and Mary Evans Merrifield and had lived in Norwalk for the past 41 years. He was a retired electrical engineer, having worked for Fire Controls, Inc in New York. He was a US Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater where he earned the Bronze Star for bravery in battle. He loved spending time with his wife, loved baseball, and attended most of his childrenâs sporting events. He was also an avid Yankees and Giants fan.
Services were April 18 at Grace Episcopal Church in Norwalk.
