‘A Nice Day’ At Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue’s Food Truck Frenzy
Despite weather forecasts earlier in the week predicting thunderstorms, the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company hosted its inaugural Food Truck Frenzy under clear skies on Saturday, April 13.
“We prayed for a nice day, and we got it,” said Tim Whelan, first engineer of Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company.
Eight food trucks lined the firehouse parking lot and fed a constant stream of incoming guests throughout the afternoon. Food trucks featured at the festival were Rice and Beans, DrewbaQ, Big Green Eggs and Hamburgers, Chef Zip Exchange, Cinnamon Churros, Southern Wings And Things (SWAT), FD Chefs, and Crazy Taco-Mex.
Also onsite were two giant inflatable bounce houses for children, donated by Mad Hatter Moon Bounce for the event; a beer garden with beverages supplied by Nick’s Chilled & Distilled and Reverie Brewing Company for the adults; and games of cornhole for all-ages to play.
Food Truck Frenzy was so well-attended that most of the food trucks sold out of their inventory, as did the beer garden, and approximately 2,500 people attended the event, which caused the need for additional tables to be brought out to the foot court area to accommodate everyone.
Mr Whelan said he is happy that Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company could provide this event for members of the community to enjoy and that it is an “appetizer” leading up to their “main course” event — the annual Lobster Festival on June 7 and 8.
He gave special thanks to all the volunteers who helped with the Food Truck Frenzy, including the Ladies Auxiliary for their support.
“Every member does their part to make this happen,” Mr Whelan said.
All proceeds raised from Food Truck Frenzy went to support the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company.
The next company fundraiser will be its Mother’s Day Flower Sale, which is scheduled to take place Friday and Saturday, May 10 and 11, at the main station, 18-20 Riverside Road.
