Head O’ Meadow Elementary School celebrated its Literacy Week March 28 to April 1, and library/media specialist Beth Murphy said “it was great.”

This year marked the first in-person author visits for the school’s Literacy Week in two years.

“It was ... a lot of fun for everybody,” Murphy said.

Author visits were scheduled for every day of the week, with some in person and some virtual, for the different grade levels at the school.

Each day of the week was also highlighted with a spirit day theme, and students and educators were encouraged to dress for the themes.

On Monday, author Paul Meisel visited with kindergarten students, on Tuesday second grade students spoke with author Susan Hood virtually, on Wednesday author Dori Marx visited with third graders, on Thursday author Monica Talbot-Kerkes visited with first grade students, and on Friday author Karlin Gray visited with fourth grade students and Marx returned to do a writing activity with more students.

Spirit day themes included wearing shirts inspired by favorite books and teachers dressing up as their favorite book characters on Tuesday, and celebrating loving reading as a community on Friday with wearing Head O’ Meadow spirit wear.

“It was a good week,” said Murphy.
