The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CT DOT) has announced bridge work will be performed on I-84 Bridge 1204 (Old Hawleyville Road) and Bridge 1208 (Parmalee Hill Road) in Newtown and Bridge 0459 (Route 6) in Bethel this season and into early summer.

Work is scheduled to begin Monday, April 21, and be completed on Monday June 23, 2025.

The project ensures the bridges remain in a state of good repair, according to an April 17 statement from CT DOT.

The project is being performed by Hammonasset Construction.

There will be overnight left or right lane closures on the bridges during the project. Closures are planned for 7:30 pm to 5:30 am. Traffic control signing patterns will be in place with Connecticut State Police to guide motorists through the work zone.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions, according to CT DOT. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.

State and MTA Metro-North Railroad officials broke ground on April 17 for the replacement of two aging bridges carrying I-95 over the Metro-North Railroad line and, shown here, First Avenue in New Haven. CT DOT will begin bridge work in two Newtown and one Bethel bridge along I-84 on Monday. —CT DOT photo
