Calling All Circus History Fans!
BRIDGEPORT— If you need a circus “fix” while you are stuck at home, The Barnum Museum in Bridgeport recommends you plan to spend this Sunday afternoon, April 19, in the (virtual) company of others by attending a circus history seminar organized by the Connecticut chapter of the Circus Fans Association, hosted by the Somers (NY) Historical Society using the Zoom platform.
The seminar will be presented on April 19, at 3 pm (Eastern time). You can also “attend” via conference call. In addition, the program will be streamed on their FaceBook page, and will be recorded for later viewing on YouTube.
The topics for the seminar will be:
*An Overview and Context of Menageries in the Early-Mid 19th Centuries — by Sarah Johnson
*Bridgeport: Home of the Greatest Show on Earth for Almost Half a Century — by Bruce Hawley
This program is part of the Somers Historical Society’s History at Home series. Based in the historic Elephant Hotel, the mission of the Somers Historical Society is to care and advocate for local historical resources and its collections of early 19th century travelling menagerie and circus ephemera and local history.
