NCC To Host Dress A Girl Event This Month
Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street, will host a sew-a-thon to support Dress A Girl Around the World on Saturday, April 27, from 10 am until 3 pm. The event will be presented by Liz Skarzynski, coordinator of the Monroe Dress A Girl Around the World group.
Dress a Girl Around the World is a campaign under Hope 4 Women International, a 501(c)(3) organization, that has worked to bring dignity to women around the world since 2006. Hope 4 Women International is a nondenominational independent Christian organization.
Its mission states in part: “We dream of a world in which every girl has at least one new dress. We want girls to know that they are worthy and respected and that they are loved by God.”
Sew-a-thons are open to those who sew at all levels, along with anyone who would like to help.
The group will be making simple dresses to be sent to at-risk women and girls around the world. Instructions, materials, and lunch will all be provided. A $5 donation per person is requested to cover supplies and lunch; a lunch break is scheduled and food will be provided for participants.
Participants should bring a sewing machine (if possible), a stitch ripper, scissors, and thread.
Donations of 100 percent cotton are also welcome. The group cannot use sheet material or anything with a Disney, camouflage, or animal pattern.
Donations of double fold ½-inch bias tape and ½-inch elastic are also welcome.
Reservations are requested and can be done by contacting Ms Skarzynski at 203-257-7172 or [naviga:u]dressagirlsouthernct@yahoo.com[/naviga:u].
