Norwalk Youth Symphony

Will Host Open House On April 26

NORWALK — Once a year Norwalk Youth Symphony opens its rehearsals to interested parents and students in order that they may observe first hand the powerful and enriching orchestral experience that NYS provides to the young musician. This year the annual NYS Open House will take place on Saturday, April 26, from 9:30 am until 12:30 pm, at Norwalk Concert Hall, 125 East Avenue.

The NYS 52nd season marks another innovative first as Norwalk Youth Symphony prepares to travel and perform in some of the finest musical cities of Europe: Prague, Budapest, Vienna and Salzburg. The NYS European Performance Tour will cap off the end to a dynamic year which will also include the NYS Principal Orchestra performing at Carnegie Hall in May. These are only a few of the reasons NYS enjoys the reputation of being on of the premier youth symphonies in Fairfield, New Haven, Westchester and Litchfield counties.

The symphony is comprised of approximately 250 students from 31 towns throughout Fairfield, New Haven, Litchfield, and Westchester counties including a number of Newtown and Sandy Hook musicians. The organization sponsors four orchestras with students from the fourth through 12 grades: Prelude, a string orchestra for those who are being introduced to their first orchestral experience; Philharmonia, an orchestra that serves as a first exposure to playing in a full orchestra for many young musicians; Concert, a full orchestra playing on an intermediate level; and Principal, the most advanced orchestra, playing a demanding repertoire.

NYS is looking for talented musicians who play stringed woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. During the open house, NYS conductors, student musicians and board members will be available to give guided tours and answer questions. Information will be available regarding the NYS Mother’s Day Concert on May 11 at Concert Hall in Norwalk, the NYS Concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City on May 30, and the NYS European Performance Tour, June 24 through July 6.
