Newtown Bounce Wins Mother/Daughter Game

The Newtown Bounce sixth-grade girls’ travel basketball team defeated the Bouncettes 56-26 in the Second Annual Mother/Daughter Game held at the Reed Intermediate School, recently.

Kerry “Smokem” Scallon led the Bounce with 12 points. Mary Joe “MoJo” Rossi contributed 10 points and 5 steals. Jenny “3 Point” Indelicato scored 9 points and dominated the boards with a strong rebounding performance for the Bounce. For the second year in a row, Lucy “Triple Threat” Rossi led the scoring for the Bouncettes with 8 points while newcomer Sherri “No Nickname” Wright proved to be this year’s secret weapon by adding 6 points and 2 steals. Janine “Kareem” Crowell led all players with an astounding 10 rebounds.

Amanda “Rip It” Crowell and Captain Tess “Taz” Murray each contributed 6 points. Assistant Captains Jessie “Silk” Principi and Kristy “The Kick” VosWinkel, along with Danielle “The Dominator” Shine, and Hope “Chaos” McMorran rounded out the scoring for the Bounce.

Denise “BBall Couture” VosWinkel had 5 points and Colleen “Hopeless” McMorran, Po “Pocahontas” Murray, Nancy “The Queen” Scallon, Kim “The Mominator” Shine, and Cathy “Lightning” Indelicato all contributed for the Bouncettes.

The Bounce led early and never looked back. The Bouncettes made a valiant attempt at a comeback when, midway through the third quarter, Coach Joe Rossi added a sixth player on the court. This proved advantageous until the Bounce Coach Dan Wright caught on and added another player of his own.

Referee “Coach John” Principi let both teams play although it was quite noticeable that he showed favoritism to his wife, Patty “Mean Machine” Principi as the Bouncettes tried to battle back against the younger players.

The championship trophy was presented to the Bounce after the game and both teams adjourned to an after-season party at Pizza Palace where Hope “Chaos” McMorran was presented the Team Spirit Award for helping to make the season enjoyable for all.
