Newtown Bounce Wins Mother/Daughter Game
The Newtown Bounce sixth-grade girlsâ travel basketball team defeated the Bouncettes 56-26 in the Second Annual Mother/Daughter Game held at the Reed Intermediate School, recently.Â
Kerry âSmokemâ Scallon led the Bounce with 12 points. Mary Joe âMoJoâ Rossi contributed 10 points and 5 steals. Jenny â3 Pointâ Indelicato scored 9 points and dominated the boards with a strong rebounding performance for the Bounce. For the second year in a row, Lucy âTriple Threatâ Rossi led the scoring for the Bouncettes with 8 points while newcomer Sherri âNo Nicknameâ Wright proved to be this yearâs secret weapon by adding 6 points and 2 steals. Janine âKareemâ Crowell led all players with an astounding 10 rebounds.
Amanda âRip Itâ Crowell and Captain Tess âTazâ Murray each contributed 6 points. Assistant Captains Jessie âSilkâ Principi and Kristy âThe Kickâ VosWinkel, along with Danielle âThe Dominatorâ Shine, and Hope âChaosâ McMorran rounded out the scoring for the Bounce.
Denise âBBall Coutureâ VosWinkel had 5 points and Colleen âHopelessâ McMorran, Po âPocahontasâ Murray, Nancy âThe Queenâ Scallon, Kim âThe Mominatorâ Shine, and Cathy âLightningâ Indelicato all contributed for the Bouncettes.
The Bounce led early and never looked back. The Bouncettes made a valiant attempt at a comeback when, midway through the third quarter, Coach Joe Rossi added a sixth player on the court. This proved advantageous until the Bounce Coach Dan Wright caught on and added another player of his own.
Referee âCoach Johnâ Principi let both teams play although it was quite noticeable that he showed favoritism to his wife, Patty âMean Machineâ Principi as the Bouncettes tried to battle back against the younger players.
The championship trophy was presented to the Bounce after the game and both teams adjourned to an after-season party at Pizza Palace where Hope âChaosâ McMorran was presented the Team Spirit Award for helping to make the season enjoyable for all.
