Freemasons Honor A Returning Newtown Marine
On the evening of March 19, Hiram Lodge No. 18 in Sandy Hook honored one of its members with a special homecoming dinner/ceremony. Sergeant John P. Tamborino III is being discharged from the United States Marine Corps and is reentering civilian life after serving five years of active duty. Following the dinner at Hiram Lodge No. 18, Mr Tamborino was greeted by his Masonic brothers in a Stated Communication. He was presented Letters of Recognition from United States Congressman Christopher Shays and Brother William L. Greene, Most Worshipful Grand Master of Connecticut, Ancient Free and Accepted Freemasons.
Following the presentation of letters many remarks of congratulations and gratitude were forthcoming to Mr Tambarino from the large gathering of Masons present. The evening was organized by Brother Joseph Porco, Worshipful Master of Hiram Lodge No. 18. John Tambarino is the son of John and Gail Tamborino of Newtown.
John Tamborino graduated from Newtown High School in June 1999 and received his BA degree from Virginia Military Institute in May 2003 with a major in economics and business. Following college graduation, he immediately began active duty in the Marine Corps and earned the position of sergeant of the 3rd Battalion 3rd Marines.
Mr Tamborinoâs military service allowed him to complete three tours combat duty in Afghanistan and Iraq where he proved to be a goal-oriented individual with strong leadership capabilities. As an organized, highly motivated and detail-directed problem solver, he conducted monthly counseling for the development of leadership and responsibility capabilities for the junior members of individual Marine Corps units. His proven ability to work in unison with both subordinate and senior personnel earned numerous Certificates of Commendation.
Mr Tamborino served as a vehicle commander/ground element commander and as an ace Scout Sniper and Assault Team Leader in both Iraq and Afghanistan. His outstanding performance earned him the Iraq Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and Combat Action Ribbons. Mr Tamborinoâs honors and awards during his service in the Marine Corps also include Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbons (3), Meritorious Mast, Marine of the Quarter, and 3rd Battalion 3rd Marines, first quarter 2006.
As a civilian, he is seeking a career that will use his superior leadership skills to successfully impact the future of a United States government agency or contractor.
