SUV Vs SUV

Police report a motor vehicle accident involving two sport-utility vehicles about 8:20 am April 8 on an icy Botsford Hill Road, near South Main Street.

Police said westbound motorist Virginia Crisani, 46, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 2001 Kia Sportage, began to slow for a line of traffic, which was stopped at a traffic signal. The Kia was then struck from behind by westbound motorist Kaman Cheung, 47, of 114 Lakeview Terrace, whose 2000 Nissan X-Terra slid on the icy roadway, police said.

Crisani experienced neck discomfort but refused medical attention, police said. Police issued Cheung a written warning for traveling an unsafe distance apart.

Three Deer

Motorist James K. Larin, 64, of 3 Roosevelt Drive was driving a 2003 Jeep Cherokee westward on Wasserman Way, near Nunnawauk Road, about 8 pm April 12, when three deer ran across the road, police report.

Larin could not stop the Jeep in time, colliding with the third deer in line and killing it, police said. Larin was not injured.

Missing Eyeglasses

Police report they received a pair of blue-framed eyeglasses, possibly belonging to a child, that were found on Currituck Road on April 12. The owner may claim the eyeglasses at the police station, 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841.

I-84 DUI

State police report that motorist Mateo Amaya, 25, of Brookfield was driving on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 10, about 8 pm April 8, when Amaya lost control of the vehicle and struck about 70 feet of guardrailing.

Amaya was not injured. State police charged Amaya with driving under the influence and also with a moving violation. Amaya posted a $300 bond for an April 21 appearance in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges, state police said.

Garner Assault

State police report that at about 3:40 pm April 7 they responded to Garner Correctional Institution on Nunnawauk Road in connection with an assault.

State police said inmate David M. Brunet, 25, allegedly assaulted inmate Rafael E. Abreau, no age given. Abreau was injured in the incident, state police said.

State police charged Brunet with third degree assault. Brunet is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court April 21 to answer the charge.

Highway Accident

State police report that motorist Mary Caron, 45, of Bristol was driving a 2003 Chevrolet sport- utility vehicle eastward on Interstate 84, near Exit 9, about 5:40 pm April 11, when she slowed and was struck from behind by motorist Michael K. McLaughlin, Jr, 18, of 43 The Old Road, who was driving a 1988 Honda Prelude.

There were no injuries. State police said McLaughlin was tailgating and also failed to carry an automotive insurance card.

Bridge Abutment

State police said motorist Daniel J. Rathonyi, 23, of 10 Deerfield Drive was driving a 1993 Nissan Maxima eastward on Interstate 84, almost one mile west of Exit 10, when the vehicle encountered some black ice at about 4:20 am April 8, went out of control, and struck a bridge abutment along the right side of the road.

The vehicle then collided with some guard cabling. State police said Rathonyi and passenger Terence O’Dwyer, 26, of Bridgewater complained of neck pain, but refused medical attention. State police took no enforcement.

Missing Watch

At about 9:40 am on April 14, a person found a watch at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street and then turned it over to police for safekeeping.

The owner should contact police at 426-5681 to claim the watch from investigating officer Michael McGowan or from Sergeant Darlene Froehlich.

Cherry Street

Police report that at about 3 pm on April 12, someone driving an auto struck and damaged a fence at 22 Cherry Street in Sandy Hook. The southbound vehicle, which may have been a Chevrolet Cavalier, would have collision damage to its left front side, police said. Police ask anyone with information about the identity of the driver to contact them at 426-5841.

Bread Container

Sometime on the night of April 11 or morning of April 12 someone stole a large rigid plastic container, which is used for shipping bread, from the rear area of Franco’s Pizza and Café at 228 South Main Street, police report. Police ask anyone with information about the theft to contact them at 426-5841.

Hawleyville Collision

Motorist Sheila Eckenrode, 46, of 7 Wildcat Road, who was driving a 1998 Honda Civic westward on Mt Pleasant Road at about 10:44 pm April 13, was making a left turn onto Taunton Lane, when the Honda collided with motorist Andrea Nowicki, 19, of 53 Toddy Hill Road, who was driving a 1998 Jeep Wrangler eastward on Mt Pleasant Road, police report.

There were no injuries. Police issued Eckenrode an infraction ticket on a charge of making an improper left turn.

Exit 11

While conducting motorist seat belt usage checks at Exit 11 of Interstate 84 at about 10:15 am April 16, police said they saw motorist Trevor Sommerville, 23, of Shelton, driving without wearing his seat belt.

Police charged Sommerville with failure to wear a set belt and with driving while under suspension. After processing the arrest, police released Sommerville for a May 1 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
