Pastel Program At Meeting House
The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown has scheduled Alain Picard to give a demonstration of creating a landscape in pastel on Wednesday, April 23, at 1:30 pm.
The program is open to the public, free of charge, and will be at Newtown Meeting House (lower level), 31 Main Street in Newtown. Reservations are not necessary.
Mr Picard is known for both his portraits and his landscapes. He brings a great sensitivity to both of these subjects. His love of light and beauty is always present.
He has won numerous awards including finalist in two categories, Animals and Portraiture, in the âPastel 100 Competitionâ in The Pastel Journal (March/April 2002); the Mount Vision Award in the Connecticut Pastel Society show in West Hartford; and Best in Show at Kent Art Associationâs Presidentâs Show in 1999 and 2000.
Mr Picard has had many solo shows throughout western Connecticut, and he has received several corporate commissions. Mr Picard graduated cum laude from Western Connecticut State University, and received a WCSU student grant for outstanding artistic excellence. He used this to continue his studies at the school of Visual Arts in Manhattan. He has also studied at the Art Students League in New York City.
Mr Picard will also be conducting a hands-on workshop on landscape in oil or pastel on May 31 at Newtown Meeting House.
