Oh, there was plenty of rain on Saturday morning but fisherman are hearty souls and many of them made their way to Dickinson Park for the annual Childrenâs Fishing Derby sponsored by the Newtown Parks and Recreation Department and the Newtown Fish and Game Club.
Anglers cast their lines in the water from 8 am until 12 noon hoping to grab a hold of one of the 250 trout (some up to 19 inches in length) swimming in the dark waters. The Derby was open to all anglers ages 12 and under. There were prizes for first, first five, and largest fish in different age groups.
While huddling under umbrellas or inside rain slickers, there was coffee, tea, and hot chocolate to warm the blood (not to mention donuts). Members of the Newtown Fish and Game Club were also on hand to assist first-time anglers.
