Imagine This slipped into the championship game in the Newtown Health & Fitness Women’s Basketball League with a forfeit win over Charter Communications, but it will be taking on a battle-tested Walsh Logging team which clubbed No. 2 seed Pizza Palace 47-38 on Tuesday night.

The championship game will tip off Tuesday, April 22, at 7 pm. Following the contest, there will be pizza.

Ruth Rowe scored 19 points, dragged down nine rebounds, and made five steals to lead Walsh to its decisive win over Pizza Palace. Megan LaCava chipped in with 10 points and 12 rebounds while Carol Hutzinger and Pat McCullough combined for 12 points, eight rebounds and five steals. Doris Ratner also had a good game with four points and three rebounds.

For Pizza Palace, Karen Powell had 10 points and 10 rebounds while Michelle Smith, Jackie Candee and Mary Dent combined for 10 points, 16 rebounds and two assists. Smith also came up with three blocked shots.

Walsh advanced into the semi-finals with a 55-35 win over Newtown Mobil in the opening round of the playoffs. Rowe scored 24 points – 18 of those in the second half – to lead Walsh. Tracey Palella scored 11 points and Hutzinger dropped in 10. LaCava and McCullough combined for 10 more. For Newtown Mobil, Karen Katrinak canned 12 points and blocked five shots while Stacy Laaksonen scored 10 points and played tough defense.

Meanwhile, Charter Communications advanced with a 50-41 win over NH&F as Colleen Gregory poured in 25 points. Laura Denis and Holly Ferguson combined for the other 25 points. For NH&F, Mel Darrah canned 10 points while Leslie Trudell and Janet Duffey combined for 17 more. Sharon McCarthy was strong off the glass and combined with Joan Plavnicky and Josette Ritzinger for 14 points.
