Edward Francis Moran, 75, passed away on April 2, 2023, in Danbury, Conn., surrounded by loved ones. He was born on July 6, 1947, in Framingham, Mass., to Edward J. Moran and Ruth V. Pignone.

Eddie was a major player in the retail and wholesale ski business in the Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Connecticut markets. He managed St Moritz Ski Shop in Wellesley, Mass., for many years while simultaneously serving as a member of the original management team at the Ski Market, a multi-store chain based in Boston. He also owned Ed Moran’s Outdoor Trading Company. His wholesale experience was with Caber-Spalding, suppliers for Caber Ski Boots and Spalding Sideral Skis. His parties for ski industry friends on Edgell Road in Framingham, Mass., were legendary.

Eddie moved to Connecticut in the 1990s, where he worked in advertising for Westport News. In 1998 he settled in Newtown, where he managed a local sign shop until his retirement in 2013.

An avid outdoorsman, Eddie loved nothing more than to be outside. Whether skiing, camping, hiking, fishing, or biking, if it was outdoors, he was doing it. He looked forward to the summers when he could vacation on Cape Cod with his beloved daughter Katie and when he was able to plant his vegetable and flower gardens. He enjoyed painting still lifes of flowers and photographing the world around him. Eddie was always happy to bring a friend along on his adventures. He was known by many and a friend to all.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Katherine Moran; brother Christopher Moran; brother-in-law Kurt Louney; sister-in-law Elizabeth Glazier; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ed and Ruth.

A memorial service will be held at Honan Funeral Home in Newtown, Connecticut, from 1 to 3 pm on Saturday, April 29, 2023.

Donations can be made to the Framingham Heart Study at framinghamheartstudy.org.
