An uplifting and entertaining evening of music will be performed this month by professional area artists as a benefit for Protect Our Pollinators.

The special online event is planned for Saturday, April 24, at 8 pm. The concert is free and will include an eclectic mix of music from Stephen Schwartz to Jason Mraz and beyond, with some novelty songs to provide lighthearted entertainment for all ages.

Jackie Gaudet has developed the nature-themed concert to mark the five-year anniversary of Protect Our Pollinators and to celebrate the group’s recenty published book, Earth-Friendly Gardening.

Selections will be sung by Gaudet, Shawn Mangold, and Katie Bisset, with piano accompaniment by Susan Anthony-Klein. Anthony-Klein’s sister Jennifer Anthony-Bogue will be the flautist for some selections.

Gaudet is the founder and director of Jackie Gaudet’s Voice Studio in Newtown, where she has taught voice for over 20 years. She has worked as a professional vocalist in the greater New York area as well as a voiceover and on-camera video artist.

Gaudet has been a singing member and soloist with the Connecticut Master Chorale, the Waterbury Chorale, and the Connecticut Choral Society. She has also performed in numerous theatrical productions in Connecticut.

Mangold is a singer-songwriter from Newtown who studies with Gaudet. He performs at various restaurants and bars around Fairfield County.

Mangold’s typical sets consist of hit songs spanning across genres and generations. For Mangold, music is all about having fun and expressing himself.

Bisset is a junior at Newtown High School. She is in the NHS Choir and NHS Singers, and she is a co-leader of the Girls Acapella. She has been involved in multiple shows with the NHS Drama program.

She has also been performing with NewArts for six years, which included a performance at Radio City Music Hall. She is an avid activist for climate change, and is planning to study environmental science and political science.

Protect Our Pollinators is a Newtown-based group that advocates for sustainable gardening methods to benefit native bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.

To access the concert, go to the Facebook page for Protect Our Pollinators (not Protect Our Pollinators MA). The performance will be “broadcast” from Salem Covenant Church in Washington, Conn.

The free event will be accepting online donations and an opportunity to purchase the book. All proceeds will help fund activities designed to support education and local habitat improvements for pollinators.

The recently published 40-page booklet Earth-Friendly Gardening – One yard at a time was written by members of POP. Guide topics include managing soil health, caring for fruit trees, conifers, and roses, rethinking lawn care and fall clean-up, maintaining an organic vegetable garden, selecting deer resistant plants, choosing native perennials, and removing invasive species.

Vocalist and voice teacher Jackie Gaudet, left, is crafting an eclectic program of nature-themed songs to perform with Shawn Mangold, center, and Katie Bisset. The April 24 concert will also be a fundraiser for Protect Our Pollinators.
