Garner Inmate Charged With Prison Assault

State police said they went to Garner Correctional Institution on Nunnawauk Road the night of April 7 to investigate a report of an assault of one inmate by another inmate at the high-security prison.

Inmate John J. Deveau, 27, allegedly punched another male inmate in the head, causing a minor injury, state police said.

Deveau was arrested on charges of third-degree assault and failure to submit to fingerprinting, state police said. Deveau was arraigned on the charges in Danbury Superior Court on April 8, and was scheduled to return to court on April 15.

Deveau is serving a five-year sentence in Garner on a conviction for third-degree burglary.
