Maximize Production Of Honey Bees

WESTON — The Back Yard Beekeepers’ Association will host a presentation on “Maximizing Honey Production,” by Dr Dewey Caron, a professor of entomology at the University of Delaware.

The presentation will be on Tuesday, April 24, at 7:30 pm in the community room of Norfield Church.

Spring comes quickly to the beekeeper. The bees already know what lies ahead and they have been preparing for nature’s bounty before the beekeeper. It is important to manage smarter bees, not more, in the spring as events cascade rapidly in bee biology.

The basics of bee biology are the foundation for progressive bee stewardship in the busy spring and early summer. Dr Caron will cover those basics and what beekeepers need to be doing to meet the challenges of bee care during spring and in preparation for the best ever honey surplus.

The Back Yard Beekeepers’ Association is a Fairfield County-based club of hobbyist beekeepers. As one of the largest hobbyist beekeeping organizations in the US, members strive to educate members and the public on the importance of honeybees to agriculture and how a hobbyist can easily keep bees. Monthly meetings are open to the public.

Prior to the presentation, there will be a program at 6:30 pm open to BYBA members and would-be members covering the basics of beekeeping. Admission to the programs is free. Call Sara Cornwall at 203-866-1945, for additional information.
