SOUTHBURY – The second annual Run For Rescue – the Go! Dog Go! road race – will be held Saturday, April 24, at 10 am, at Ballantine Park in Southbury.

A three-mile race will begin at 10 am, with a two-mile race to follow at 10:30 am and a one-mile kid’s fun run to follow at 11 am. Canine companions are invited to participate in the two-mile race with their owners.

All participants in the Run For Rescue – celebrating the eighth birthday of Animals For Life, Inc. – will receive a race package filled with fun gifts and treats. Pre-registered runners will also receive a custom logo t-shirt and all canine participants will receive custom logo bandanas and special doggie gifts.

Refreshments will be provided to all runners at the conclusion of their races and canine runners will be invited to chow down on a freshly-baked all-natural birthday cake provided by The Natural Pet.

An awards ceremony will take place at 12 noon. Prizes will be presented to the top three finishers in each age category of the three-mile race, as well as to the first overall male and female finishers in that race. The top three human-canine teams in the two-mile race will receive prizes, as well, as will the top three finishers in the Kid’s Fun Run.

The celebration will also include a craft show from 10 am to 4 pm as well as music from Norm Geib and his band. A pet photographer will also be on hand. A canine adoption, scavenger hunt and live dog training demonstration will fill the rest of the afternoon.
