Red Cross Honors Heroes
DANBURY â In celebration of March as Red Cross Month the American Red Cross of Western Connecticut held its 14th Annual Breakfast honoring community heroes March 23 at the Amber Room Colonnade in Danbury.
Hero awards were presented in four categories: Community Impact Award presented to Charles and Patricia Bates and Don Clady of New Milford; Good Samaritan Award presented to David Pisciotta, Robert Hayner, and Al Orne of Danbury; Lifesaving Award for Professional Responder was awarded to Alex Glazier and Emily Wolf of Danbury, and the Ridgefield Fire Department (Captain Glenn Lake, Sr, Lieutenant David McDevitt, Fire/Medic Christopher Alward, Fire/Medic Michael Moore, Fire/Medic Christopher Sanders, Firefighter Kenneth Brown and Firefighter Douglas Pribanic). The Lifesaving Award for Community Responder was presented to Thomas Corkery of Portchester, N.Y., James Corkery of Sherman, and Kenneth Stilson, Jr, and Kenneth Stilson, III, of Danbury.
The celebration and awards ceremony is an opportunity to recognize those individuals who are making a difference in the community. âWe are proud to pay tribute to outstanding individuals whose extraordinary acts of courage and kindness make them heroes,â said Michael Malone, director of development of the Western Connecticut Chapter.
The American Red Cross of Western Connecticut and its more than 1,500 volunteers serves a 17-town area providing programs and services in disaster response, health and safety education, blood services, HIV/AIDS education, transportation, Armed Forces emergency services, international services, Lifeline, workplace training, and the Vehicle Donation Program.
