Monroe Man Dies

in Early Morning Accident

By Andrew Gorosko

A Monroe man died due to injuries he suffered in a one-car accident early on the morning of Saturday, April 10, on South Main Street in Botsford, police said.

At about 4:22 am, motorist Ryan S. Gardner, 21, of 192 Church Street, Monroe, was driving a 1991 Nissan Maxima sedan southward on South Main Street, just north of South Main Street’s intersection with Abbey Lane, when while negotiating a curve to the left, near 330 South Main Street, the auto instead traveled in a straight line, police said.

The auto traveled approximately 25 feet off the road and struck a stone wall head-on, police said. Gardner was alone in the auto.

Botsford firefighters were dispatched to the accident. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported an unconscious Gardner to Danbury Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

A spokeswoman for the state medical examiner said that an April 12 autopsy found that Gardner’s accidental death was caused by multiple blunt traumatic injuries. The results of toxicology tests are expected in four to eight weeks, the spokeswoman said.

Police did not provide many details about the accident, which is under investigation. The specific cause of the accident has not been determined, police said. Any witnesses to the accident are asked to contact police at 426-5841 or 270-8888.
