Set For May 3
The Newtown Lyme Disease Task Force and the Newtown Rotary are planning a free informational lecture on Lyme disease on Monday, May 3, from 7 to 9 pm, at the Fireside Inn, 123 South Main Street.
Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumental will give the opening remarks. The stateâs attorney general was instrumental in the passage of Lyme disease legislation in 1999, and co-sponsored, with the Connecticut Department of Public Health, an all-day hearing, âPerspectives on Lyme Disease,â in January 2004.
The speakers for the May 3 program include Dr Richard Horowitz, a Lyme disease specialist, and Pat Smith, president of the Lyme Disease Association, Inc.
Board-certified in internal medicine, Dr Horowitz specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of complicated Lyme and other tick-borne diseases. He is an internist with 20 years of experience in treating more than 4,000 cases of persistent Lyme disease. He currently is the first vice president of the International Lyme and Associated Disease Society, Inc, (ILADS).
Pat Smith is ILADS vice president of political affairs and past chairman of the New Jersey Governorâs Lyme Disease Advisory Board.
Admission is free. Doors open at 6:30 pm.
