Lake Authority Says Think Safety

A new boating season is beginning and now is the time to start the season right, says Lake Zoar Authority (LZA) Commissioner Bill Soracin.

Boaters are reminded that their craft must be registered and they must have a boating and PWC (powered watercraft) license.

The US Coast Guard requires that all boats have life jackets, a first aid kit, paddles, a horn and flares, an anchor, and a baling device.

Boaters are reminded to check the condition of their trailer, tires, and lights.

Launch permits are required. The Coast Guard has pamphlets and maps of Lake Zoar available at the town halls of LVA member towns. These towns include Monroe, Newtown, Oxford, and Southbury.

There will be patrols on Lake Zoar on weekends and some weekday nights. This year water quality will be stressed. Local health departments will have the results.

The Lake Zoar Authority will be accepting delivery of a new state-of-the-art weed harvester in early May.  The LZA has meetings on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm at the Southbury Town Hall in Room 103-104. Meetings are open to the public. Comments or suggestions will be heard.
