OJ Slice Wins

Championship

Like a championship game should be, the championship game of the Newtown Parks and Recreation Girls Senior Basketball League was decided by just one point as OJ Slice defeated the Crabs, 27-26, last week.

Kaitlyn Daugherty scored eight points to lead Slice to the win as Emily Fields, Emily Nezvesky and Kyle Paynter had solid performances. For the Crabs, Erica Carino canned 13 points as Alex Helfer, Trina Ramsdell and Kaitlyn Murphy played well.

The Slice reached the championship game with a 48-38 win over the Blue Whales in the semi-finals. Melissa Mason popped in 13 points while Fields, Nezvesky and Paynter each had another great floor game. For the Whales, Rose Jackman scored 13 points, Erin Murdoch dished off seven assists, Briana Bowen made four steals and Courtney Brunton grabbed six rebounds.

The Crabs reached the championship game with a 35-25 win over the Tony Mananas. Carino had 13 points as Kaitlyn Murphy, Ramsdell and Diana Grimaldi played well. For the Mananas, Rachel Eastman popped in seven points as Kate Fenton dished off five assists, Moira Collier made four steals, and Jenn Blauvelt grabbed nine rebounds.

In the quarterfinals, OJ Slice hammered Maroon, 47-17, as Daugherty canned 13 points and Paynter dished off 10 assists. Mason and Fields played well. And in the other quarterfinal contest, the Tony Montanas defeated Purple, 39-19, as Fenton and Eastman combined for 17 points whole Moira Collier and Kelly Collier played well. For Purple, Tara Ryan popped in eight points as Mary Ober, Quincey Blanchard and Ali Legros had fine floor games.
