Finding Humor

In Shakespeare

At Booth Library

Liz Arneth and Gordon Williams will be finishing their series of book discussions that offer a light-hearted look at great plays with a discussion on William Shakespeare’s As You Like It on Tuesday, April 22. The program will be at C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street. It will begin at 7:30 pm.

One of Shakespeare’s early plays, As You Like It (1598–1599) is a stock romantic comedy that was familiar to Elizabethan audiences. It is a comedy full of song and joking banter yet unafraid to tackle the bigger issues including brotherly love, marriage, tolerance for different viewpoints, the natural world, death, as well as optimism about life in general. Written 400 years ago, here is a play that is still eminently discussable.

Multiple copies of the plays are available at the library. Registration is requested, and attendance at any of Mrs Arneth and Mr Williams’ earlier discussions in this series is not mandatory in order to join and enjoy this one.
