Curtis Packaging Installs New Printing System
Curtis Packaging, a leading packaging designer and folding carton printer in the United States, has installed a new all UV ten-station, 51-inch KBA Rapida press with Dispersion Coater at its facility in Sandy Hook.
The Rapida press is a first of its kind in North America and is designed to print spot colors and metallics more attractively and effectively. The new system includes extensive dispersion coating and drying capabilities enabling metallic colors such as gold, silver, platinum or bronze to be added at the start of the process or during the press operation. The Rapida dispersion coater when used in the proper application is a more cost-effective alternative than foil.
With a top rated speed of 15,000 sheets per hour, the press includes eight printing stations and the ability to print four-color process and four-color specialty colors in one pass. The press is also an outstanding short-run performer as controlled make-readies can be moved from job-to-job in a matter of minutes.
Curtis now has two 51-inch all UV KBA presses capable of printing seven and eight colors. Both presses are available to be fingerprinted and plated for all printing projects.
âUsing the most advanced systems and technologies available to make our customers more successful has always been the cornerstone of our successâ said Donald R. Droppo, chairman and chief executive officer. âInstalling another KBA press will keep us way ahead of the technology curve in terms of print quality, automation, and productivity.â
The KBA 51-inch Rapida press includes comprehensive coating capabilities and an Ergotronic console and Colortronic inking unit control for ease of operation. The system includes automation modules for production management including a KBA Logotronic CIP 3 CTP workstation and a closed loop Densitometry workstation integrated into a CIPLink digital workflow.
