Clarification

A clarification is needed concerning the story in last week’s Bee about the Legislative Council’s budget hearing held Wednesday, April 7, at the Reed Intermediate School. While the story noted that First Selectman Herb Rosenthal asked the council “not to make reductions to the Board of Education’s proposed budget,” he was referring to the budget as it stood after it was amended and reduced by the Board of Finance by the amount of $250,000, not as it was proposed by the school board.

The First Selectman was not recommending that $250,000 be put back into the education budget as the story indicated. He did speak in favor of passage of the current school $53,118,457 spending plan without any further reductions.
