Brookfield Man Dies

Following Auto Accident

By Andrew Gorosko

An elderly man who was driving his auto near the intersection of Church Hill Road and Commerce Road midday on April 14, was reportedly stricken by an heart attack, after which his vehicle went out of control and struck a building, police report. The man, Tore Anderson, 83, of 49 High Ridge Road in Brookfield, was later pronounced dead at Danbury Hospital.

Police said that at about 12:45 pm, Mr Anderson, who was driving a 1995 Dodge Neon sedan, exited the parking lot of Newtown Pizza Palace at 65 Church Hill Road and then traveled across the intersection of Church Hill Road and Commerce Road.

Mr Anderson was then apparently stricken, after which the Dodge left the road and went onto the front lawn of Union Savings Bank at 1-A Commerce Road, traveled across the lawn and crashed into an automatic teller machine positioned next the front door to the bank, according to police.

Newtown Police, Newtown Hook & Ladder, and the town’s volunteer ambulance corps responded to the accident. Mr Anderson was transported to Danbury Hospital under advanced life support, where he was later pronounced dead.

There were no other injuries stemming from the accident, police said. The impact damaged the auto and the teller machine.

The accident remains under investigation, police said.
