Audubon Center Is Offering

Birding By Ear Classes

SOUTHBURY — Bird calls and songs are among the most beautiful sounds in nature. Anyone interested in knowing which bird produces which sound is invited to a series of field sessions at the Audubon Center at Bent of the River.

Conducted by Carolyn Longstreth, the sessions will begin with local birds such as cardinals, titmice and bluebirds, and progress to warblers, indigo buntings, rose-breasted grosbeaks and other migrant birds.

Participants can choose either of two four-session courses from 8 to 10:30 am on Saturdays (April 24 and May 1, 8 and 15) or Tuesdays (April 27 and May 4, 11, 18).

The fee for non-members is $85, which includes Audubon membership. Members pay $50. The fee includes instructional recordings. Space is limited, so anyone interested is asked to call 264-5098 to register as soon as possible.

Bent of the River, a 650-acre wildlife sanctuary and nature education center owned and managed by the National Audubon Society, is at 185 East Flat Hill Road in South Britain, about a half mile from Connecticut Route 172.
