Audi Vs Toyota

Motorist Lynn Young, 47, of 54 Main Street, who was driving a 1999 Toyota Corolla sedan westward on Meadow Brook Road at about 4:30 pm April 8, stopped at Meadow Brook Road’s intersection with Huntingtown Road, police report.

Motorist Kimberly Johnson, 43, of 12 Palestine Road, who was driving a 2001 Audi 2A-Q station wagon, was traveling westward behind the Toyota, police said.

At the intersection, the Audi struck the Toyota from behind, police said. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Johnson for following too closely.

Blue Spruce Road

Police report they stopped motorist Richard Pinnock, 31, of Danbury for a motor vehicle violation  at about 10:42 am April 8 at Blue Spruce Road in Botsford. After stopping Pinnock, police charged him with improper passing.

Police said they learned that Pinnock was wanted on a warrant by Danbury police on a charge of third degree assault, so they turned over Pinnock to Danbury police.

Four Violations

While on patrol on the afternoon of April 8, police spotted a 1995 Mazda 626 that did not display a current vehicle registration sticker while traveling in the area of Queen Street and Wasserman Way.

Police stopped the auto to investigate and then charged motorist Deborah Conway, 28, of Bridgeport with failure to display a valid vehicle registration sticker, driving under suspension, driving without proof of automotive insurance, and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Conway is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on April 22 to answer the charges, police said.

Sandy Hook Break-In

Sometime between 1:45 and 7:15 pm on April 5, someone kicked in the rear door of a residence on Philo Curtis Road, near Treadwell Park. Nothing was taken in the burglary, police said. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the crime to contact them at 426-5841 or 270-8888.

Financial Crime

Newtown police said they learned on April 9 that Donald Dobitas, 23, of New Haven was being held in custody by New Haven police. Newtown police said they held an outstanding arrest warrant for Dobitas in connection with alleged financial crimes in Newtown.

Newtown police said they charged Dobitas with fifth degree larceny, sixth degree larceny, and two counts of second degree forgery.

Police allege that during August 2003, Dobitas stole checks and then cashed those checks at the Western Connecticut Federal Credit Union at 15 Berkshire Road in Sandy Hook. The crime involves signature forgery, police said.

The total loss in the case is $575, police said. Dobitas was scheduled to appear in court April 12 to answer the charges.

Motorcycle Accident

Motorcyclist Jan Wilson-Newman, 51, of 11 Sealand Drive was driving a 2004 Honda VT-600-CD motorcycle southward on Hanover Road, near its intersection with Lake Road, at about 6:30 pm April 6, when a dog entered the road and began running toward the motorcycle, police said.

The Honda went out of control and it fell onto its right side, throwing Wilson-Newman from the motorcycle, police said, adding she received injuries on the left side of her body. Wilson-Newman received private transport to Danbury Hospital, police said. The accident is under investigation, according to police.

Honda Vs Mazda

While traveling northward on South Main Street about 2:45 pm April 9, motorist Trevor Seferi, 19, of 20 Meadow Brook Road, who was driving a 1998 Mazda Protégé, was stopping for traffic near 101 South Main Street, when the Mazda was struck from behind by northbound motorist Rosemarie Cavanaugh, 73, of High Bridge Road, who was driving a 2000 Honda Accord, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Cavanaugh a written warning for following too closely.

Intersection Crash

Police said that motorist Rita Gallagher, 38, of 58 Hilldale Drive, who was driving a 1998 Ford sport-utility vehicle, drove into the rear end of a 2004 Audi A-6 driven by John Kortze, 37, of 52 Cobblers Mill Road, at about 4:45 pm April 7. There were no injuries.

The accident occurred on Wasserman Way at its intersection with Route 34. Police issued Gallagher a written warning for following too closely.

Berkshire Collision

While traveling in traffic near 42 Berkshire Road about 6:40 pm on April 7, motorist Patrick Mc Carthy, 17, of 31 Bennetts Bridge Road, who was driving a 1989 Nissan 240-SX, struck the rear end of a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban sport-utility vehicle driven by Tara Ryan, 17, of 10 Beckett Village Road, police said. There were no injuries.

Police issued McCarthy a written warning for following too closely. Sandy Hook firefighters went to the accident to clean up spilled automotive fluids.

I-84 DUI

State police report they saw motorist Autumn J. Krantz, 25, of Watertown driving westward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 11, at about 2:18 am April 10 and stopped to investigate.

State police charged Krantz with driving under the influence, failure to stay in the established lane, driving under suspension, driving with insufficient automotive insurance, and misuse of marker plates. After posting a $1,000 nonsurety bond, police released Krantz for an April 19 court appearance.

Tractor-Trailer

State police report an accident between a tractor-trailer truck and an auto on westbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, at about 8:45 pm April 11.

Motorist James Beanland, 72, of Carmel, N.Y., who was driving a 2001 Honda Accord, was struck from behind by tractor-trailer truck driver Andre Perreault, 49, of Caticook, Quebec, Canada, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said Perreault was following too closely.

Jeep Crash

Motorist Thomas Corderman, 32, of Southbury, who was driving a 2002 Jeep Liberty sport-utility vehicle eastward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 11, at about 11:30 pm April 9, changed lanes on the highway, but turned too fast and struck guardrailing along the right side of the road, state police said. Corderman was not injured. State police said Corderman failed to stay in the established lane.

Three Vehicles

State police report a three-vehicle accident on eastbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 9, about 5:30 pm April 6.

State police said a tractor-trailer truck driven by Kerry Towle Annis, 37, of Rochester, N.Y., struck the rear end of a 2002 Subaru Impreza station wagon driven by Michele Aragi, 25, of Seymour, pushing the Subaru into the rear end of a 1999 Saab 9-3 driven by Steve Early, 49, of Woodbury.

There were no injuries. State police said Annis was following too closely.

Object Hits Subaru

Motorist Leslie Tung, 43, of 49 Old Hawleyville Road, who was driving a 2002 Subaru Legacy station wagon westward on Interstate 84, about 2,500 feet east of Exit 11, at about 3:30 pm April 7, was traveling behind a 1994 Chevrolet, which was driven by Vasile Morarescu, 62, of Long Island City, N.Y., state police said. The Chevrolet was towing a Ford van that was mounted on a dolly.

Morarescu lost a wheel, which then struck the hood of the Subaru, according to state police. There were no injuries. State police said Morarescu had unsafe wheels and was operating an unregistered vehicle.

Tool Theft

Police report the elaborate overnight theft of a heavy hammering tool being used by a town road crew on a construction project on Laurel Trail in Riverside.

Police said that at approximately 9 pm on April 1, a pneumatic hammer tool, which is an attachment to an excavating machine, was taken from a Laurel Trail worksite.

Someone attached a chain to the tool and then dragged the tool behind a pickup truck from Laurel Trail to Riverside Road, Bancroft Road, Alpine Drive, Shadblow Trail, and then to Cottonwood Trail, police said.

Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at 426-5841 or 270-8888.

Driving Violations

Police said that while using speed radar on Currituck Road on the morning of April 12, they stopped motorist Sandra Ballard, 43, of Danbury. The radar showed that Ballard exceeded the posted speed limit, police said.

Police charged Ballard with traveling unreasonably fast and with driving under suspension. Ballard is scheduled to appear in court April 27, police said.

Multiple Charges

Police report they were called to a domestic dispute on April 12 and charged Ronald Lee, 54, of 15 Dodgingtown Road with breach of peace, criminal mischief, interfering with police, assault on police, reckless endangerment, and disorderly conduct. Police said they held Lee on bail for arraignment in court on April 13.

Four Charges

Police said they were summoned to a domestic dispute on April 9 and charged Brandon Jossick, 23, of 40 Turkey Hill Terrace with disorderly conduct, possession of a weapon (knife) in a motor vehicle, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police released Jossick for an April 12 court arraignment.

Moving Violation

On the afternoon of April 13, police were alerted to the presence of a suspicious vehicle on Old Green Road. Police went to investigate and charged motorist Michael O’Sullivan, 24, of Waterbury with driving under suspension. Police released O’Sullivan on a promise to appear in court April 29.

Main Street Accident

Motorist Amy Reyen, 41, of 6 Fleetwood Drive, who was driving a 1995 Toyota Camry northward on Main Street about 11 am April 13, stopped to make a left turn into the Newtown Savings Bank driveway and was struck from behind by northbound motorist Michael Callanan, 56, of 81 Lakeview Terrace, who was driving a 1997 Dodge Ram pickup truck, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps treated Reyen, police said. Police issued Callanan an infraction ticket for following too closely.

South Main Crash

Motorist Miryam Kuligowski, 40, of 37 Cobblers Mill Road, who was driving a 2000 GMC Yukon sport-utility vehicle, was stopped in the southbound lane of South Main Street and was waiting to turn left onto Swamp Road about 1 pm April 13, when the Yukon was struck from behind by motorist Chris Marcel, 24, of Shelton, who was driving a 1992 Nissan Pathfinder, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported both drivers to Danbury Hospital for treatment, police said. Police issued Marcel an infraction ticket for traveling too fast for conditions.

Audi Damaged

Police report that someone sometime between the evening of April 12 and early morning of April 13, attempted to break into a parked 2004 Audi at a Taunton Lake Road residence. In attempting to break into the vehicle, the person did more than $250 of damage to the driver’s door. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the crime to contact them at 426-5841 or 270-8888.

Commercial Burglary

Sometime between 8 pm April 6 and 8:30 am April 7, someone forced entry into commercial office space at 2 Riverside Road in Sandy Hook. A number of items were stolen. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the crime to contact them.
