Choral Society’s Spring Concert Will Be A Classic

Newtown Choral Society will present Kenneth Grahames’ children’s classic The Wind in the Willows, with music by John Rutter, on Saturday, April 28, at 7:30 pm. The concert will be presented at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown

Under the direction of Mary Andreotta, the choir will be accompanied by the woodwind ensemble The Taunton Winds, as well as Mae Steinberg on piano and Nick Albano on percussion.

Wind in the Willows is the story of the adventures of three animal friends — Mole, Rat and Badger — in the English countryside and their efforts to protect their young friend Toad from his own bad instincts.

The part of Badger will be sung by Dick Zang; Rat is Mark Case and Mole is Dave Evans. The part of Toad will be sung by Ruben Aparicio. Arnie Persky will be Rutter’s “Wildwood Carol.” Peg Heetmann, Amy  Persky and Patsy Beddoe-Stephens will play the jailer’s daughters, and Wendy Wipprecht, Laura Lerman and Janet Bennett perform the roles of the mice.

The second part of the program will be devoted to folk songs.

Tickets, available at the door, will be $8 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and those under 12.
