With sadness the family of Bruce M. Herring, 81, announces his death on April 10, 2025, at Danbury Hospital after a short illness.

Bruce was born May 2, 1944, to his parents Fred Herring and Constance Doepler Herring in Danbury Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Newtown, most recently on Toddy Hill Road in Sandy Hook. He is survived by his wife Deanne Wilcome Herring and sons Keir Hansen of Simsbury, his wife Julie and grandson Jakob; Joseph Hansen of Whitefield, New Hampshire, his wife Tara and grandchildren Marco, Ash, Jameson and Jackson; and David Rosvally of Sandy Hook, and his wife Carrie, with son Tyler and daughter Kaelyn.

Bruce was devoted to his town and was a member of St Rose of Lima Church. As a child and young adult, he had many interests, from Little League baseball to playing drums and rock n’ roll at high volume. He graduated from Newtown High School in 1962 and from Sacred Heart University in 1967. He worked for 40 years as a commercial Realtor throughout Fairfield County. He was also a member of the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Board of Trustees for 17 years, wherein he served various terms as treasurer, vice president and president. He was proud to be instrumental in the building of the new NVA Association facility in Fairfield Hills. He and his wife shared a love of gardening. His particular affection for daylilies led him to specialize in growing these after his retirement from real estate. He loved to visit friends of long standing with either two of the family’s retired racing greyhounds or a grandchild in the car. His devotion to his wife and family, his community, and his church were unswerving from beginning to end.

A gathering of friends and family will take place at Honan Funeral Home on Monday, April 21, from 4-7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 22, at 10:30 am, at St Rose of Lima Church, 42 Church Hill Road in Newtown, with a luncheon reception immediately following. Burial at a later date will be private. The family suggests donations be sent to Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Association, PO Box 344, Newtown CT 06470 or newtown-ambulance.org/donate.
