Tercentennial Committee Moves Forward With Summer Plans

The Tercentennial Steering Committee continues to meet monthly to coordinate the many events celebrating Newtown’s 300th birthday.

In the upcoming months, Newtown residents will have the opportunity to join in various celebrations sponsored by local clubs, organizations, and businesses.

Special tercentennial presentations by the Newtown Choral Society and the Friends of Music, cemetery tours, a folk art show, a rooster parade, vintage baseball and a reenactment by the 5th Connecticut Regiment are some of the activities the committee hopes will attract crowds.

Newtown schools have been involved in various research and art projects highlighting our Newtown’s Tercentennial. The popular Lion’s Club Duck Race will showcase Newtown organizations this year and the historic house tour supported by the Newtown Historic Society will offer a peek at local homes dating back to the early days of Newtown.

The August 6 All Day Birthday Celebration will be the culmination of this summer’s fun. Food, fun, live music, an antique car show, pony rides, and games and activities for young and old are the draw to this event at Fairfield Hills. The Tercentennial Committee promises that the fireworks display scheduled for the evening of August 6 will be spectacular.
