NEW HAVEN â The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station will hold a free âPlant Science in the Springâ program at 1 pm on Monday, April 18, in the Donald F. Jones Auditorium, 123 Huntington Street.
Visitors will hear talks, tour laboratories and greenhouses, and have an opportunity to bring soil samples for testing and plant, insect, and weed problems to be identified.
The speakers for the event will be Dr Sharon Douglas on âRamorum Blight (Sudden Oak Death) in Connecticutâ; Dr Chris Maier on âInvasion of Alien Insects,â and Dr Robert Capers on âInvasive Aquatic Plants: Why theyâre a problem, and what weâre doing about it.â
Gale Ridge will answer questions about insects, Dr Sharon Douglas and Mary Inman will answer questions about plant problems and diseases, Dr Todd Mervosh will answer questions about weeds, and Gregory Bugbee will answer questions about soils.
Demonstrations in the agricultural experiment station laboratories and greenhouse will be Dr Donald Aylor on âEfficiency of Pollination in Corn Plantsâ; Dr MaryJane Incorvia Mattina on âTheory and Practice of Analytical Chemistryâ; Dr John Anderson on âLooking in on the Biosafety Level 3 Laboratoryâ (mosquito/virus analyses); Dr Theodore Andreadis on the âMosquito Laboratory.â
The Experiment Station is off I-91 Exit 6 in New Haven. Turn right onto Willow Street at the end of the ramp and proceed to the end. Turn right onto Whitney Avenue. Huntington Street is the third left. The Experiment Station is on the right past the first cross street.
