NHS Career Center Lists Scholarships

Information and applications for the following scholarships is available at the Career Center at Newtown High School:

Sandy Hook Elementary School PTA Scholarship — The Sandy Hook PTA will be awarding two scholarships for $1,000. Applicants must be graduating seniors who attended Sandy Hook Elementary School and have been accepted to a post-high school academic program. They should have career goals that include working with young children or in the arts. The application must be received by April 27 at 3 pm.

ConnTESOL Scholarships — Connecticut Teachers to Speakers of Other Languages will be awarding two scholarships to high school seniors. One award of $1,000 will be given to a graduating high school senior presently or previously enrolled in ESOL or bilingual education classes, who is planning to attend a four-year college in the fall of 2005. The other award of $1,000 will be given to a graduating high school senior who is planning to attend a community college in the fall. Completed applications are due by May 20.

Western Connecticut Umpires Association — A college scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior who will be pursuing a college education and is on the varsity baseball team. The scholarship winner will be invited to the annual banquet in June. Applications and coach recommendations must be returned to the Career Center by May 11.

West Haven Irish American Club — One scholarship of $500 will be awarded to a high school senior planning to further his or her education in the fall of 2005 in a full-time program at a college, vocational, or technical institution. All applicants must be relatives of a member in good standing of the West Haven Irish American Club. Applications are available in the Career Center and are due by May 7.
