‘Music And The Law’ Lecture At Quinnipiac

HAMDEN — Andrew Schaeffer, a senior attorney with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), will be the keynote speaker at “Music and the Law” at 5 pm on Thursday, April 28, in the Grand Courtroom of Quinnipiac University School of Law. The lecture, sponsored by the Intellectual Property Law Society, is free and open to the public.

Mr Schaeffer will discuss ASCAP’s operations, including the licensing of public performance rights, copyright infringement litigation and royalties distribution. He will additionally address current trends in copyright law, particularly the downloading of music on the Internet and the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios vs Grokster Ltd case recently argued before the US Supreme Court.

ASCAP is a membership association of more than 200,000  composers, songwriters, lyricists, and music publishers.

ASCAP is the only US performing rights organization created and controlled by composers, songwriters and music publishers, with a board of directors elected by and from the membership.

Those planning to attend are asked to contact Richard Finkelstein at Richard.Finkelstein@Quinnipiac.edu by Monday, April 25.
