Moving Violations
Police report they spotted motorist Vanessa Potje, 23, of Stratford driving on Route 25 on the morning of April 7 without a vehicle registration expiration sticker on her rear marker plate, so they stopped her to investigate.
After investigating, police charged Potje with failure to display a vehicle registration sticker and also with driving while under suspension.
After processing the arrest, police released Potje on $100 bail for an upcoming appearance in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.
Larceny
Police report that at about 3 pm April 8 they charged Anne Gargano, 55, of 42 Currituck Road with one count of sixth-degree larceny at the Big Y supermarket at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street.
After processing, police released Gargano on a written promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court on April 19 to answer the charge.
Dog Violations
On April 8, police charged Alison Nabhan, 47, of 3 Wedgewood Court in connection with past alleged dog violations.
Police said they charged Nabhan on a warrant with failure to respond to an infraction and with two counts of allowing a dog to roam.
Police said that while they were in the process of making the arrest, Nabhan began to resist arrest, so they additionally charged her with interfering with police.
Police released Nabhan on a court-set $184 bail for an April 22 court appearance.
Drug Charges
On the morning of April 8, police lodged charges against James Pixley, 18, of 48 Bear Hills Road in connection with a motor vehicle accident that occurred on March 26, 2004.
Police said they charged Pixley with first-degree failure to appear in court and also with failure to store narcotics in their original container, possession of narcotics, and with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said they held Pixley on $5,000 bail for a court appearance on April 8.
Burglary
Police said they have charged two men in connection a burglary that occurred in Newtown in August 2004.
On April 9, Jonathan Butler, 18, of 78 Waterview Drive turned himself over to police and was arrested on a warrant listing charges of second degree burglary, third degree larceny, second degree forgery, theft of a credit card, and with three counts of illegal use of a credit card.
After processing, police released Butler on a written promise to appear in court on April 21.
On April 10, Tony Schick, 20, of Danbury turned himself over to police and was charged with second degree burglary, third degree larceny, theft of a credit card, and with three counts of illegal use of a credit card.
Police released Schick on $500 bail for an April 21 court appearance.
Police said the two arrests stem from a long-term investigation, adding that more arrests are expected.
Four Violations
At about 6 pm April 8, motorist Jovani Martinez Camero of 34 Glen Road, who was driving a 1995 Mazda 626 westward on Church Hill Road, near Edmond Road, was making a left turn into a gas station, when Camero collided with eastbound motorist Jordin Lynn Olson, 17, of 30 Brushy Hill Road, who was driving a 1983 Buick Regal eastward on Church Hill Road, police said.
There were no injuries in the accident, police said.Â
Police said Camero provided a false identification card and could not provide proof of automotive insurance. Police consequently charged Camero with third degree forgery, driving without a driverâs license, driving without automotive insurance, and making a restricted left turn.
Police said they held Camero on $5,000 bail for an April 11 court appearance.
Drug Charge
On April 8, Michael Henderson, 23, of Southbury was arrested on a warrant and charged with possession of narcotics (heroin), police said. After processing the arrest, police released Henderson on a promise to appear in court on April 21.
Motorcycle Accident
At about 5:19 pm April 7, motorcyclist Tainter Gilbert, 36, of 40 Black Bridge Road, who was driving a 1962 Triumph motorcycle, was stopped in a driveway at 104 Glen Road, police said.
Gilbert then attempted to put the motorcycle in gear, but lost control of the vehicle and entered the northbound lane of Glen Road, colliding with passing motorist Carol McHugh, 54, of 20 Bridge End Farm Lane, who was driving a 1995 BMW 525-I sedan, police said. The motorcycle struck the right side of the auto.
Newtown ambulance staffers went to the scene to check Gilbert for minor arm and leg cuts, police said.
Police verbally warned Gilbert for failure to grant the right of way. Police issued Gilbert an infraction for driving a motorcycle without a motorcycle license.
Sandy Hook Crash
Motorist Emily Svanda, 36, of 4 Nettleton Avenue was driving a 1999 Toyota Sienna minivan eastward on Church Hill Road about 4:30 pm April 5, when the minivan was involved in a one-vehicle accident, police report.
Police said Svanda told them that she took her eyes off the road, after which the vehicle went off the right side of the road, striking a street sign, a utility pole, and the sign for the Newtown United Methodist Church at 92 Church Hill Road. The minivan carried two child passengers, according to police.
There were no injuries. Police said they are investigating the accident.
I-84 DUI
State police said that motorist Anthony Riviere, 29, of Waterbury was seen driving faster than the posted speed limit on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 10, about 1:48 am April 10, so they stopped him to investigate.
Riviere failed field sobriety testing, state police said. Riviere was charged with driving under the influence and speeding, according to state police. Riviere was scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.
Interstate Accident
At about 6:47 pm April 4, motorist Lydia Saravis, 45, of 15 Winding Brook Road was driving a 2002 Acura MDX sport-utility vehicle westward in the center lane of Interstate 84, state police said.
Rocky Groves, 42, of Lugoff, SC, was driving a 2004 Freightliner tractor-trailer truck in the adjacent right lane, state police said.
The truck changed lanes and struck the Acura, state police said. State police said Groves made an unsafe lane change and failed to carry a vehicle registration.
DUI Charge
On the evening of April 10, police received a report concerning a man who was possibly intoxicated while within a motor vehicle in the parking lot of Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street.
As police arrived at the shopping center, the man drove southward on South Main Street, after which police stopped him to investigate.
Following a interview with motorist Edward Lillis, 38, of Bridgeport, police charged him with driving under the influence. After processing his arrest, police released Lillis on $250 bail for an April 26 court appearance.
Moving Violation
On April 11, police charged motorist Alex Colon, 35, of Brewster, N.Y., with driving a motor vehicle while under suspension. Police took Colon into custody, later releasing him on a promise to appear in court on April 29.
Rear-Ender
Motorist Patricia DeCesare, 50, of 170 Brushy Hill Road, who was driving a 2000 Toyota Avalon westward on Route 302 about 2:45 pm April 11, stopped to make a left turn onto Elm Drive and was then struck from behind by motorist Mohamed Samsu, 51, of 31 The Boulevard, who was driving a 1994 Buick Century, police said.
There were no injuries. Police issued Samsu an infraction ticket for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Two Warrants
On the afternoon of April 13, police served two arrest warrants against Robert J. Bergeron, 17, of 89 Poverty Hollow Road.
Police said they had arrested Bergeron last December 21 on a charge of sixth degree larceny. Bergeron, however, failed to make a court appearance in connection with that charge, so a judge issued a rearrest warrant for him on April 6, police said.
When police found Bergeron on Queen Street, they charged him with second degree failure to appear in court and with sixth degree larceny.
Also, police said that Bergeron allegedly broke into a Poverty Hollow Road home on March 16 and stole some items from it. Following an investigation, police sought and received an arrest warrant for Bergeron for that crime.
Police additionally arrested Bergeron on charges of third degree burglary and fourth degree larceny.
Police were holding Bergeron on $10,100 bail for an April 14 court appearance to answer the charges.
Motor Vehicle Arrest
At about 9:30 pm April 13, police spotted an eastbound vehicle on Mt Pleasant Road that crossed over into the westbound lane, so they stopped the driver.
Following an investigation, police charged motorist Glenn S. Davis, 52, of Monroe with failure to drive to the right and with driving with a suspended license.
Police released Davis on a promise to appear April 26 in Danbury Superior Court.
