Letters Of Endorsement
To the Editor:
I would like to remind all borough residence to vote in the borough election on May 2 at the town hall. It is also my privilege to support Joan Crick for warden. Most people know her deep commitment to the borough. In fact, there is hardly a conversation where the borough doesnât come up. Here are a few things you may not know about Joan Crick:
She was one Newtownâs first womenâs basketball superstars and still one of the top all time scorers;
She helped originate the Girls Parks and Rec basketball program and the Annual Sportsmanship award is the Joan Crick Sportsmanship Award;
She is a Glover, one of the founding families of Newtown;
Her leadership experience is exemplary; past president of Newtown Country Club, present warden of the borough, present chairman of the Health District.
Through her tutelage and the support of many, the borough has become what The New York Times describes as âpristine early American elegance.â We now have new sidewalks, an ongoing ten-year sidewalk repair plan, a Borough of Newtown Historic District, and a health district. Some may remember the sewer plan to lay the pipe and destroy the majestic sugar maple tree line down Main Street. It was Joan Crick and the Board of Burgesses who fought and won for the preservation. The piping was bored under the extended tree roots. This is the type of leadership we need today, especially with the continued pressures of growth and development. For me, itâs Better in the Borough.
Thank you,
John S. Madzula
