Bertha Medar Shuflata, 92, of The Homesteads at Newtown, wife of the late Michael Shuflata, died at Bethel Health Center on April 6.
She was born in Adelaide, Penn., on April 2, 1913, daughter of John and Anna (Krinack) Medar. Mrs Shuflata grew up in Whitaker, Penn., and moved to Bridgeport in 1935. She married Michael J. Shuflata in 1941.
She worked for Risdon Manufacturing from 1946 to 1978. Upon retirement she decided to travel, and volunteer as a candy striper at Danbury Hospital.
In 1988 she followed her son, Michael, to Florida and had âthe best 15 years of her life,â traveling all over the world, playing cards and bingo.
Bertha is survived by her son Michael and his wife, Maryruth (Ward), of Danbury; her grandson Mark and his wife, Jacqui, of Brookfield; granddaughter Michele Totonis and her husband, Tony, of Southington; and her great-granddaughter Kylie Lynn of Brookfield; also her sister-in-law, Catherine Trocola of Danbury; nieces, Carol Lucente, Joan Perkins, Mary M. Shuflata, Kathleen Green, Kathleen Worthington, and Elaine Tiboni; nephews, Bernard Antol, James Arendash, Ed King, Jr, and Donald Trocola.
Mrs Shuflata was predeceased by her husband Michael; brothers John and Steve; sisters Ann Antol, Helen Vamos, Julia King, and Catherine Arendash.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Danbury on Friday, April 15, at 10 am.
Graveside services will follow at St Peterâs Cemetery on Kenosia Avenue, Danbury, Section 19, Lot 68B.
