The first class is called "Newtown Style!" and runs from July 16 to July 20. The one-of-a-kind etiquette camp is taught by Mrs Connecticut America's 2016 winner Allyson Genovese-Naughton, who placed in the top 15 in the Mrs America pageant.
According to the course brochure, students will learn "how to enter a room with self-confidence and class; how to conduct yourself on an interview, whether it be for a pageant or a job; learn giving respect is just as important as being respected; get fashion advice; and learn how to take control of your life [through] proper nutrition and exercise all while having fun."
The camp is available for ages 3 to 6, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm; ages 7 to 13, from 1 to 4 pm; and ages 14 and up, from 5 to 8 pm. Each class is customized age appropriately and campers must register by July 9.
Lathrop School of Dance's second camp of the summer is "Go For The Gold: Olympics Week!" and runs from August 13 to August 17, for ages 3 to 13.
"We'll play games, and it will be all Olympic themed," Lathrop School of Dance Owner and Director "Miss Diane" Wardenburg said.
The last weeklong camp of the summer will be "Caribbean Cruise Week!" that runs August 20 to August 24, for ages 3 to 13.
Dancers will groove to Caribbean-style music and feel like they are on an island vacation.
For both of the latter two camps in August, children will be put into three groups by age and will rotates doing arts & crafts, games, and dance throughout the day.
There will be a special performance for family and friends on the last day of camp where students will showcase what they have learned throughout the week.
All campers are asked to bring a lunch, snack, and water bottle; and to wear comfortable clothing and sneakers.
Half-day camp options include times from 9 am to 12:30 pm or from 1:30 to 4:30 pm. A full-day of camp runs from 9 am to 4:30 pm, with an hour for lunch from 12:30 to 1:30 pm.
For those who request it, there are also extended care hours, from 8:30 to 9:30 am; 12:30 to 1:30 pm; and 4:30 to 5:30 pm.
There will also be a meet-and-greet for both new and current Lathrop School of Dance students who are interested in attending camp this summer on Saturday, May 12, at the Edmond Town Hall. From 1 to 1:30 pm people will be able to meet with camp instructor and former Mrs Connecticut America's Allyson Genovese-Naughton; then from 1:30 to 2 pm guests can learn about the latter two camps taught by Lathrop School of Dance staff.
Miss Diane says that those who attend this special workshop can enter a raffle to win the chance to get a free week of camp. There will be a lucky winner for each of the three camps offered.
"Three people are going to win a week of camp… but they have to attend to win," she explained.
In addition to the three weeklong summer camp options, Lathrop School of Dance is offering Summer Dance & Fitness Classes. These sessions include Boys and Girls Hip Hop, for ages 5 to 9, with Miss Tamra; Tapping, for adults only, with Miss Tamra; Ballet for Beginners, ages 8 through 12, with Miss Julielle; Beginner Two Ballet, ages 13 and up, with Miss Julielle; Mini Yogis for ages 3 to 6, with Miss Emily; and Zumba, for all ages, with Miss Megan.
